Artist Statement
My childhood was mostly spent in very remote and rural locations. The seasons appeared to slow down as I followed the agricultural cycles around me. Periods of light and dark, life and death, fertility and harvest, filled my life as I grew up. Later, when I moved to an urban environment, these experiences were translated into the light and dark, life and death of city existence.
Although not formally trained, I have tried to develop my practice of art at every opportunity. I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to show my work at a number of locations in recent years and it hangs in a number of private collections.
I endeavour to create pictures and objects using a vocabulary of symbols, which I find in the landscape and people around me. Many images I use will contain references to life, death, sex and the shadows of the street.
My writing is sometimes plain text, but quite often experiments with form, typography and visual imagery.
I am always looking for future challenging projects.
